EVERY TEAM NEEDS A COACH! SPYFFL relies heavily on its tremendous volunteers to facilitate the season. Simply put, a flag season wouldn’t be possible without our coaches – we thank you in advance. Coaching a youth sports team can be very rewarding. Each team will require at least 1 head coach and 1 assistant coach. Please consider signing up to coach with your child’s team. The time commitment is minimal – approx. 2 hours per week (1 practice and 1 game). Here are some resources to help you get started in planning practices and learning the rules of NFL Flag! Coach Bruce's Testimonial
Have you ever wondered what it takes to coach? This is what Coach Bruce has to say about getting involved with coaching:
Spring is almost here and I’m excited for it, because for me, spring means coaching flag football. This spring will be my seventh season coaching in an NFL flag league and I highly recommend all parents with a little bit of an interest in football, or even a general interest in youth sports and athletic development to try coaching. Flag is a quick two-month season and the time commitment is easily manageable for players and coaches.
I’ve been fortunate to be a head coach, offensive coordinator, or defensive coordinator for each of my son and daughter’s teams over the past few years. My favorite is coaching offense; I love figuring out plays that are easy for the team to learn, fun to execute, and help our team score some points.
There are lots of resources available for coaches of all experience levels. Whether it’s your first time coaching a sport and you need flag football practice plans, including drills, coaching cues, games, and strategies for the whole season, or if you are an experienced coach and just looking for that special play to get a new player the ball, the resources available for free or a very small fee are excellent.
For me and my kids, flag football has proven to be the perfect blend of competitiveness, participation, learning, athletic development, and most of all fun. Each season as a coach I know I’ve done a great job if everyone on the team has enough fun that they sign up to play again the next season. So far, so good.
